PMRC 101.1 Seminar – Basics of the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code 2020 Edition for CoalVenue: PNOC, Department of EnergyThe Philippine Mineral Reporting Code Committee (PMRCC) in cooperation with the Energy Resource Development Bureau (ERDB) of the Department of Energy (DOE) held the first seminar on the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code 2020 Edition (PMRC 2020) for coal. The PMRC 2020 Edition allows the compatibility of the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code with the international mineral reporting codes under the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) and paves the way for the acceptance of the PMRC Committee (PMRCC) membership in CRIRSCO.


DOE Undersecretary Alessandro Sales opened the event and remarked that more workshops must be held in order to facilitate a reporting system suitable for the coal industry.


The webinar was held on May 29, 2023 from 8:00am to 5:00 pm. Engr. Hilbert Cardenas, Training Committee Head of the PMRCC, and Mr. Alvaine Ibarrola of the DOE were the emcees of the event The event featured the following:

  • CRIRSCO and International Reporting Codes by Jun Angeles

  • PMRC 2020 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations by Rogel Santos

  • The PMRC Committee by Eric Nera

  • Reporting of Exploration Results, Exploration Targets, and Mineral Resources (TR- Form 01) by George Baquiran

  • Coal Resource Estimation Case Study by Joseph Foronda of PNOC-EC

  • Reporting of Mineral Reserves (TR-Form 02) by Marcelo Bolano

  • Conversion of Mineral Resources to Mineral Reserves by Rolando Cruz


After the presentations, the Q&A session elicited a lot of response and interest from the participants.

PMRC 101.2 Webinar – Basics of the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code 2020 Edition. The event was organized by the Geological Society of the Philippines (GSP), a Parent Organization of the PMRCC. It was the first webinar on the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code 2020 Edition (PMRC 2020) which is due for full implementation on September 21, 2023 since the two-year transitory period with the older PMRC 2007 will end on September 20th. The PMRC 2020 Edition makes the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code compatible with the international mineral reporting codes under the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) and paves the way for the acceptance of the PMRC Committee (PMRCC) membership in CRIRSCO.


The webinar was held on May 26, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:30 pm. Mr. Cecilio C. Bautista was the emcee of the event while Mr. George B. Baquiran welcomed the participants and acknowledged the sponsors. The event featured the following:

After the presentations, the Q&A session elicited a lot of response from the participants. The session was facilitated by the emcee which lasted for almost an hour. The webinar attracted the participation of more than 140 people consisting mostly of geologists, some metallurgists, mining engineers, and staff from the Philippine Stocks Exchange (PSE) and Mines and Geoscience Bureau (MGB).

2022 Minerals Industry Symposium (MIS2022)– “RESILIENCE. RESET. RECOVERY” was organized by the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers, a parent organization of the PMRCC. This hybrid or blended (face to face and online) symposium was held from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm last November 17, 2022 during the festivities of the 68th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC). Venue was the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City.


The symposium featured technical papers enriching the participants on the insights and initiatives reflecting the resiliency of the Philippine Mining Industry to continually contribute and be an invaluable vehicle towards the country’s economic recovery. The symposium had a total of 1,622 participants.


Engr. Christopher John Orteza and Engr. Agot Dumanas were the emcees. The symposium commenced with a Safety Induction, Invocation and Singing of the National Anthem. The Welcome Remarks were provided by the PSEM Northern Luzon Chapter President Engr. Roel A. Collado. An Opening Message was delivered by the PSEM National President Engr. Donald G. Estrella. The Guest Speaker was the South Africa Ambassador, Bartinah Ntombizodwa Radebe-Netshitenzhe. The keynote Message was given in the afternoon by the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga. The following presentations were made, as follows:

A DENR Mining Round Table Discussion and Plenary Session was moderated by Dr. Carlos Primo C. David by mid-to late afternoon. A synthesis of the symposium was generated and delivered by Engr. Maria Raniela P. Orteza. The Closing Remarks were provided by Engr. Felizardo A. Gacad Jr., PSEM Secretary.


 

November 15, 2022


5th PMEA Forum – “New Innovations in the Mineral Resources Industry” was organized by the Philippine Mining and Exploration Association (PMEA), a member organization of the PMRCC. This hybrid forum was held from 1:00 - 5:00 pm last November 15, 2022 during the festivities of the 68th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference. Venue was the Ifugao Room of the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City.


The forum featured presentations of recent advances in geophysical exploration, mine automation and safety, plant optimization, and an update on the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code. The seminar had a total of 153 participants.


Mr. Manny Ancheta was the emcee of the forum. Mr. Cecilio Bautista led the prayer and national anthem. He likewise discussed the Guidelines for participants. The Welcome Remarks was provided by Mines Geoscience Bureau – Cordillera Autonomous Region Director Ms. Fay Apil. The following presentations were made, as follows:

  •  Update on the PMRC by Mr. Ciceron Angeles

  •  The Future of Geophysical and Geotechnical Surveying by Mr. Gerard McNeil

  •  Mine Automation and Safety by Mr. Jan Douwe Wansink

  •  Digital Twin Technologies – Leveraging Existing Plant Data to Enhance Operation by Mr. Rudi Rautenbach

  • The Closing Remarks were delivered by Mr. Joey Nelson Ayson, President of PMEA.


 

October 20, 2022


PMRC 162 – “Technical Report Writing” was organized by the Society of Metallurgical Engineers of the Philippines (SMEP) under the auspices of the PMRCC. This is a hybrid seminar as part of the Metallurgical Engineering Industry Conference 2022. The event was held last October 20, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Convention Hall, 2F Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Tibanga, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. Targeted course outcomes are as follows:

  1. Organize the format and content of a technical report

  2. Use the techniques in communicating vital information to the reader

  3. Present data in an orderly but concise manner

  4. Understand the key parts of an ACP Technical Report

  5. Write an ACP report in the PMRC format using TR3

The seminar had a total of 288 participants. The Welcome Message was given by Engr. Hans Josef P. Enriquez, Vice President, SMEP. The following presentations were made, as follows:

  •  Writing an Engineering Technical Report by Engr. Hilbert M. Cardenas

  •  PMRC Technical Report 3 by Engr. Ramon Jake G. Foronda


The Closing Remarks were delivered by Engr. Leaniel C. Silva, Chairman of the Dept. of Materials and Resources Engineering & Technology, College of Engineering & Technology (COET), MSU-IIT.

Accredited Competent Person (ACP) in Geology Webinar was organized by the Geological Society of the Philippines (GSP) with the major objectives of inspiring qualified Geologists to be ACPs and updating the current ACPs. The webinar was held last May 28, 2022, from 9:00AM to 12 noon via Zoom platform. The gold sponsors to the event were Oceana Gold, CEXCI and Philex Mining Corporation.


Seventy-two(72) participants attended the webinar. Welcoming them was Mr. George B. Baquiran. The following PMRC, PMRCC, GSP and ACP topics were presented:

  2. MRCC and the GSP ACP System by Mr. Joey Nelson R. Ayson

The Highlight Technical Presentation was “The Basics and Proper PMRC Reporting of Porphyry Copper Deposits” by Mr. Ciceron A. Angeles Jr..


Mr. Henry R. Salvado was Master of Ceremonies and Moderator of the Question and Answer segment held after all the presentations.
